acrylic on canvas board
'all grown up' is a piece inspired by Gemma Smith and the movement, vibrancy and organic nature captured in her artworks. There is such different aesthetic values conveyed between the smoother work to the rougher, more textured work that it was impossible to choose only one to release, thus both are available!

'olivia' is part of the Expectations collection I created for my VCE Studio Art finals and explores my perception of societal expectations being broken down and flourishing into individuality through the use of alien-like characters.
This portrait is of a dear friend and uses vivid hues of cool blues as well as a large portion of the painting being a fiery scarlet colour.
This work along with 'leticia', a sort of self portrait, both use lively colours to explore an idea that they do not fit in with the dull monotone palette of society.

'expectations' is the contrast in the Expectations collection and explores numerous alien-like figures created in dull shades of grey against a dark navy background. This piece explores the idea of society's expectation that everyone be the same and how individuality or anything that stands out is frowned upon. This work reflects what I imagine the world wants our 'perfect' society to look like.

However a closer look can reveal that although the characters are seemingly miserable in this society, they do have a small sense of identity through the differing illustrations on their faces and this may suggest there could be hope and a much needed rebellion against these 'perfect' beliefs may be coming.

'leticia' is the second artwork part of the Expectations collection and explores an idea of who I think I would be without the judgement of individuality in society; without fear, who could we be? This piece is a sort of self portrait created using an alien-like character style that is reoccurring through the collection.

This piece uses a similar firey scarlet as well as cool blue and green hues to 'olivia' to demonstrate an alliance, a togetherness between those who are different. The vibrancy of these colours suggests strength as they are not tones that seemingly blend in and raises the hope of a rebellion against the societal expectations that are doing detrimental damage to individuality.
